Grand Nirvana unveils boutique resort in Kerala

Our Bureau

Chennai, Sept. 26 Grand Nirvana Holiday Resorts Pvt Ltd has launched its first boutique resort — The Grand Nirvana Lake Resort in Alleppey, Kerala.

The 30-room resort is set up on a 2.7-acre plot on the bank of Vembanad Lake.

Announcing the launch here at a press conference, Mr P.N. Mohan, Chairman, Grand Nirvana Holiday Resorts Pvt Ltd, said the company has invested Rs 10 crore in the project. It plans to add another 20 rooms very soon.

He said the size of the travel and tourism industry of Kerala is over Rs 3,900 crore. In 2006, Kerala hosted about 4.28 lakh foreign tourists and 62.71 lakh domestic tourists. However, there are only 147 quality hotels with 5,365 rooms.

Currently, the resort houses a multi-cuisine restaurant, an ayurveda centre and a swimming pool.

Luxury houseboat

It also has a luxury houseboat – The Cruising Villa – with two bedrooms, living-cum-dining, kitchen and an upper deck with a Jacuzzi.

“We are also planning to introduce the time-share concept for the property, however, it will only be partial,” he said.

Elaborating on the proposed model, he said instead of taking in 1,500 members (room-a-week per member), the company will take in only 700 members.

The resort is affiliated to the global holiday exchange company RCI.

Grand Nirvana plans to have at least three resorts by 2010. “We have already finalised a 15-acre property near the National Defence Academy in Pune where we are planning a similar 30-room boutique resort at an investment of Rs 8 crore,” Mr Mohan said.
