Dragged to court
Looking at TV visuals of the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary being presented in court after his arrest in disproportionate assets case, a colleague wondered loudly why there was so much of pushing and jostling whenever a high profile arrest is made. He got his reply from another colleague in the photo department who related a small tale. In the recent weeks, the CBI had nabbed a wanted criminal and had alerted the media about him being brought to court. TV crews waite
d patiently outside the designated court but there was no sign of the CBI team. Moreover, there was no one in the court room as the judge had not turned up that day.
Apparently, the arrested person was presented before another judge but when the CBI officials found there was no media around, frantic calls were made to the TV crews. The CBI team then reached where the media was waiting and enacted the entire process of parading the person into the vacant courtroom. The idea, it seems, is to project to the world how the law catches up with the guilty and literally drags the person to court.
