Coal Singareni to open 10 new mines by fiscal end Production target for 2007-08: 38.04 mt Target till Sep 26: 18.78 mt Production till date: 18.67 mt Despatches till date: 19.61 mt Ambarish Mukherjee Chennai, Sept 27 Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) will be opening 10 new open cast mines during the remaining four months of the current fiscal. It has already opened up one new mine, namely the Srirampur 1 earlier this year. Out of the 10 new mines that will be opened up, three will be expansion projects; the others will new mines, company officials said. The new mines that will be opened shortly are Srirampur 2, Koyagundum 2, Kunavaram, Dorli 1 and Dorli 2, Khairagura, and Abbapur. The expansion projects are Jalagam Vengal Rao 1, Manuguru 2 and Ramagundam 1. Opening of the new mines will enable the company to increase the per capita productivity further through the introduction of more efficient mining technology and increased mechanisation, officials said. They added that while the target output per man shift (OMS) for 2007-08 was set at 2.26 tonnes, the company has registered an OMS of 2.44 tonnes during the first eight months (April-August) which is 108 per cent of the targeted level. SCCL currently operates 55 mines spread over four districts of Andhra Pradesh and has a workforce of around 78,000. Out of this, 13 are opencast mines and 42 are underground mines. With the addition of 11 new mines during the current year the total number of operational mines will go up to 66, officials said. More Stories on : Coal
