Arcelor may begin work next year

Bhubaneswar, Sept. 27

Steel giant ArcelorMittal is hopeful of starting work on its proposed 12-million-tonne per annum capacity steel mill in Orissa next year, the Chief Executive Officer of ArcelorMittal India Ltd, Mr Sanak Mishra, said here on Thursday. Talking to presspersons on the sidelines of an international conference on ‘Emerging steel scenario in India — Focus Orissa’ here, Mr Mishra that the construction process was likely to begin by mid-2008. He said that progress on the mega steel project was satisfactory and the construction process would begin as soon as the detailed project report gets ready. Dastur and Co is preparing the detailed project report. The company is also in the process of preparing a report on the rehabilitation and resettlement measures that it would require to implement the project. —
