Lumension begins operations

Bangalore, Sept. 28 What does an e-commerce Web site and a global enterprise in India have in common? Dipping quality levels due to misunderstood security needs. BPOs are fast adopting managed services models here in an attempt to deal with the continuous flux in the security scene, says US-based Lumension, a recent entrant into the Indian security market.

The company, previously PatchLink Corporation, has arrived in India with a backpack of products including a network scanner and application and device control security solutions. But security profiling is the most important need the firm’s V-P envisages.

“The growth in ICT projects has changed India’s security needs. The impact on global enterprises, which are now sharing, digitising, and connecting across the Internet more, is obvious. Their continued focus on perimeter products is not sufficient. Internal security and preventing leakage of critical company information (such as customer data, designs and schematics, intellectual property) by employees has to be given a higher priority,” said Mr Neal Gemassmer, Vice-President, Asia Pacific, Lumension Security. Its products will ensure better quality of service over low bandwidth networks.

The security solutions in place will also need to be customised and Lumension is contemplating research and development in India to cater to this need.

In addition to its office in Mumbai, the firm plans to open offices in Bangalore and Delhi. “BFSI, IT/ITES, Manufacturing, Transportation - airlines, Hospitality and Government sector will be our primary target markets,” added Mr Gemassmer.
