Textiles States - Tamil Nadu Government - Policy TN not to pump funds into co-op spinning mills Our Bureau Coimbatore, Sept. 28 Of the 18 textile units run under the co-operative sector in Tamil Nadu, the State Government had closed 13 unviable units. Of the remaining five, three are viably run at present, while the working of the other two units needed some streamlining, according to the Tamil Nadu Minister for Handlooms and Textiles, Mr N.K.K.P. Raja. Speaking to reporters at the sidelines of the SIMA-sponsored CEOs meet on ‘Recipe for enhancing competitiveness of the textile industry’ here, Mr Raja who maintained that the State Government was determined to run all the five co-operative spinning mills, however, discounted the possibility of the Government further pumping in funds for the revival of the two. “The funds needed would have to be met through internal accruals from the units concerned,” he added. SIMA, which is seeking State Government’s support in training the textile manpower, has made a request to the Tamil Nadu Government to hand over to the industry one of the closed co-operative textile mills in Dharapuram that could be used as a textile training institute. Mr Raja said his Ministry had invited suggestions and demands from all the textile trade bodies, including SIMA, that can be taken up by the State Government, while evolving the new textile policy. He said the new textile industry policy would be announced by the Chief Minister and the textile policy would be independent of the industries policy. More Stories on : Textiles | Tamil Nadu | Policy
