Public Sector Banks Industry & Economy - Rural Development States - Karnataka Banks in Dakshina Kannada cross Rs 15,300-cr biz level
Our Bureau Mangalore, Sept. 30 Banks in Dakshina Kannada district crossed a business level of Rs 15,319 crore as on June 2007. This was disclosed during the District Consultative Committee meeting for banking development here recently. Speaking at the meeting, Mr K.U. Shanbhag, Deputy General Manager of Syndicate Bank, said that 370 branches of various banks in the district achieved a business level of Rs 15,319 crore. This included deposits of Rs 9,516 crore and advances of Rs 5,803 crore. Expressing satisfaction over the performance in agri lending, he said more importance should be given for improving the performance of secondary and tertiary sectors. Giving details about the implementation of the financial inclusion programme in the district, Mr Shanbhag said that Dakshina Kannada is ready to be declared a financially included district. With the help of non-governmental agencies, the banks in the district have opened 89,252 ‘no-frills’ accounts and provided general credit cards to 3,546 families. Mr Udayakumar Holla, Lead District Manager, Syndicate Bank, presented the agenda. The committee reviewed the performance of banks under banking statistics, implementation of the district credit plan for the first quarter of 2007-08, and the Government-sponsored schemes. Mr A.M.
