CCEA extends sops to MAP importers

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Oct. 1 The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its approval for the inclusion of imported mono-ammonium phosphate (MAP) under the concessional scheme for de-controlled potassium and nitrate (P&K) fertilisers prospectively.

“There has been a shortage of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) due to non-availability of basic raw materials like folic acid and the move is aimed to reduce dependence of the country on imported DAP and would help in stabilising the prices of other phosphatic fertilisers,” an official said.

Import of MAP on government account would be within the overall ceiling for imported DAP in 2007-08 to the extent of shortfall in availability of the product. There will, however, be no such restriction on import of MAP by private importers subject to the concession payable on imported DAP, the release said.

The maximum retail price of imported MAP grade will be fixed prospectively at Rs 9,350 per tonne at par with DAP.
