Festival bonanza for pensioners

Coimbatore, Oct. 2

In a gesture that would bring some cheer to the pensioners in the State with in the run up to Deepavali, the Tamil Nadu Government has doubled the festival advance granted to pensioners. According to a Government Order issued by the Finance Secretary, Mr K. Gnanadesikan, till now State Government pensioners, both State civil and teacher pensioners, were given festival advance of Rs 500 or one month’s pension, whichever was less. Various pensioners associations have been pleading for hiking this amount to Rs 1,000. The government has decided to accept this request and has directed that all Tamil Nadu Government pensioners, both State civil and teacher pensioners, be granted festival advance of Rs 1,000.
