RPP Constructions gets SIMA textile park contract

Coimbatore, Oct. 2 The preliminary engineering works contract for the Southern India Mills Association (SIMA)-promoted textile processing park project at Cuddalore SIPCOT industrial estate has been awarded and the work has commenced, according to SIMA.

The Rs 11.84-crore contract has been awarded to RPP Constructions.

The first phase of the Rs 450-crore processing park project is being implemented via a special purpose vehicle, the SIMA Textile Processing Centre, formed for the purpose.

SIMA is awaiting the clearance from the Coastal Regulatory authorities of the Union Government for the project which has the component of sea discharge of treated effluents. ‘We hope to get the permission in another three months’ time’, the Secretary general of SIMA, Dr K. Selvaraju, said.

SIMA has proposed to implement the textile processing park under the Central Government’s scheme of integrated textile park (SITP) and the Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) will be the project management consultants for the SIMA’s project.
