New Projects TCL India plans production unit by 2010 Debdatta Das New Delhi, Oct. 2 TCL India Holdings Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Chinese television manufacturing major TCL group, has said it would set up its greenfield unit in Noida by 2010, even as it plans to extend its product line to small home-appliances. “We plan to set up our greenfield manufacturing unit by 2009-10, somewhere in Noida,” said Mr Sudhanshu Bhandari, Assistant Marketing Manager, TCL India Holdings. The company plans to initially manufacture colour televisions, and finally build up capacity to produce air-conditioners and washing machines, all of which are its top-selling products in the country. It plans to expand its portfolio from the current four categories of TVs, ACs, washing machines and DVDs to smaller home appliances. “We have been in the Indian market for two years now and feel that it is the right time to expand our presence in the country through our product offerings,” said Mr Bhandari. The company is all set to launch small appliances such as mixers, juicers, grinders and rice cookers by January 2008. Festive salesOn its plans for the upcoming festive season, Mr Bhandari said the company had offers lined up for the upcoming Durga Puja followed by mega offers during Diwali. “We are offering scratch cards with our products. Through these scratch cards we are offering customers gifts, as well as a chance for three couples to visit China,” said Mr Bhandari. On sales during the festive season, Mr Bhandari said sales figures often treble due to the incentives on offer, and the company expects similar sales performance this time. TCL has captured 6 per cent market share in the white goods and electronics industry over the past two years and clocked revenues of Rs 440 crore in 2006-07. The company expects to capture 8-10 per cent market share in the current year. More Stories on : New Projects | Consumer Electronics | Television Sets
