Rs 65 cr for Indian Rare Earth unit

Madurai, Oct. 2

Manavalakurichi unit of Indian Rare Earth Ltd (IREL) in Kanyakumari district has been allotted Rs 65 crore by the Central Government for its modernisation programme. According to Mr S. Sivasubraanian, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, IREL, the plant has been playing an important role in the nuclear programme of the country, helping to stockpile sufficient quantity of thorium for use as nuclear fuel, and would start playing a crucial role as and when scientists switched over to its use.
