Bhubaneswar, Oct. 2 The State Bank of India Chairman, Mr Om Prakash Bhatt, has said the bank is in the process of strengthening its overseas branches.

Talking to presspersons here, Mr Bhatt said specialised cells were also being opened in the country to facilitate loans to Indian companies starting operations in other countries.

Mr Bhatt said, “So far, we have been catering to the local populace through our 84 overseas branches, but now we are reorienting our strategy.” The company was also planning to increase the number of its overseas branches, he added.

Mr Bhatt further said that the bank was also working on a new project called ‘payment gateway’ to facilitate international monetary transactions. The process would take about three months.
