Dr Jancy James, Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma of Gandhi University here, has been chosen to receive the `Socrates International Award' instituted by the European Business Assembly (EBA) in the UK.

According to a press note issued by the university, she is the first Indian to receive this honour. Mr John Netting, Director General of EBA, informed Dr James that the award was in recognition of her contributions to the intellectual development of modern society. The award will be distributed at the 41st Oxford summit of the leaders of business, science and culture of European countries to be held in Oxford. - Our Correspondent
