Kolkata, Oct. 3

India Infrastructure & Logistics Pvt Ltd (II&L), one of the private container train operators, is set to run a fully reefer train between the inland container depot at Loni near New Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru port.

The rake, comprising 43 FEUs (forty-ft containers) and two power packs, will leave Loni on Thursday. This is for the first time a private container operator will be running a fully reefer train between Delhi and JN port.

Container Operator

The consignment of the reefer rake comprises meat for exports to various West Asian destinations. The exporter is Allana Sons, Mumbai.

II&L launched its service on May 31, 2007, and has so far handled close to 5,000 TEUs including 150 reefer containers, all forty footers. These reefer containers were moved in general rakes. On certain occasions, half a reefer rake was used.

“With two rakes, we offer 9 to 10 services each direction a month on Loni-JNPT route,” according to a spokesman for the company. “The third rake is to join the fleet shortly.” With the third rake coming, as it was pointed out, II&L would operate two general rakes and one fully reefer rake. “The cargo inducement for the reefer rake is adequate,” the spokesman added.
