Mumbai, Oct. 3 An All-India Khadi-Fest is being organised by the Khadi & Village Industries Commission to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary from October 2. The exhibition-cum-sale, housing 50 stalls by artisans across India, was inaugurated by Mr S.M. Krishna, Governor, Maharashtra.

A host of rural products, along with 500 count muslin khadi, baluchari silk sarees, mirror embroidery from Kutch, honey, handicrafts, designer wear garments and organic cotton fabric will be on display for 30 days. A rebate of 20 per cent will be offered on the sale of khadi fabric and garments and 10 per cent rebate on reeled silk, cotton, polyester and spun silk. Mr J.S. Mishra, Chief Executive Officer, KVIC, said that khadi had become a fashion statement and its low cost and climate friendly texture attracted people from all classes. Envisioning a khadi unit in every village, the Governor said, “It would contribute tremendously towards generating employment.”
