Tea Coonoor tea sales volume at 11-week high P.S. Sundar Coonoor, Oct. 3 An analysis of the catalogues of different brokers shows that 12.03 lakh kgs would be offered at Sale No: 40 of the auctions of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) to be held here on Thursday and Friday. This would be the highest volume of the last 11 weeks. This is some 30,000 kgs more than the offer of last week and as much as 2.4 lakh kgs more than the offer this time last year. The volume has increased because of the fresh arrivals arising from the recent rains in the plantation pockets. Also, volumes of tea which had remained unsold in the previous auctions have been re-catalogued. In all, it is learnt that 9.67 lakh kgs would be the fresh offer this week. VolumesOf the 12.03 lakh kgs, 8.6 lakh kgs belong to the leaf grades and 3.43 lakh kgs, dust grades. Again, as much as 11.35 lakh kgs belong to the CTC variety and only 0.68 lakh kgs to the orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox continues to be low in both the leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 0.24 lakh kgs belong to the orthodox while CTC gets 8.36 lakh kgs. Among the dusts, only 0.44 lakh kgs belong to the orthodox while 2.99 lakh kgs is CTC.
