AP takes third slot in foodgrain production

Hyderabad, Oct. 4 Andhra Pradesh has climbed up to the third position, from sixth place two years ago, in foodgrain production after Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. The State has produced 169.50 lakh tonnes in 2005-06 (the all-India figures for 2006-2007 are yet to be compiled). Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Agriculture, said the State had moved up from the sixth position in 2002-03 (106.55 lakh tonnes) and 2003-04 (137 lakh tonnes) to the fourth place in 2004-05 with a total production of 134 lakh tonnes.
