Agri-Biz & Commodities - Rubber
Better weather helps spot rubber recover

Aravindan

Kottayam, Oct. 4 Spot rubber moved down further on Thursday. Another favourable turn in the weather impacted the sentiments as there were no rains over the past couple of days. Certain traders and growers turned sellers on sheet rubber and the grade fell to Rs 90 from Rs 90.50 a kg both at Kottayam and Kochi. The market made all round declines following fears on better supply. There were no fresh quotes from major manufacturers.

Futures gain

The rubber futures managed to finish in the positive zone except for its October contract which weakened to Rs 90.40 (91.51) a kg in a rather dull trading session on NMCE. The November contract finished at Rs 86.55 (87.52), December at Rs 86.44 (86.25) and January at Rs 87.61 (87.38) per kg for RSS 4. The transactions totalled 1,232 (1,196) tonnes and open interest 3,584 (3,701) tonnes. Physical prices were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 90 (90.50); RSS-5: 87 (87.50); ungraded: 85 (85.50); ISNR 20: 86 (86.50) and latex 60 per cent: 62.60 (62.60).
