New Delhi, Oct. 5

The UPA-Left Committee on the Indo-US civil nuclear deal held its third meeting here on Friday. The committee, set up to go into the concerns and reservations expressed by the Left parties on various aspects of the deal, is slated to meet again on October 9.

A short statement read out by the External Affairs Minister, Mr Mr Pranab Mukherjee at the end of the two-hourlong meeting said the discussions will continue on October 9. "All members of the Committee took part in the meeting. The meeting carried forward the earlier discussions on the basis of inputs provided by both sides," he said.

According to sources, the Left parties conveyed their "strong" opposition to the Government going ahead with operationalising the deal, including any negotiations being held with the IAEA for finalising a safeguards agreement.
