Evaluating sites in Andhra Pradesh, TN

The company believes that India is at a point where significant investments are likely in the areas of oil and gas and other related areas where the company has a big market potential.

Hyderabad, Oct 5

Emirates Techno Castings FZE, a UAE-based manufacturer of critical steel castings, is in the process of evaluating the possibility of setting up of a manufacturing base in India that could potentially entail investment of about Rs 200 crore.

JV sourcing deal

The company, which has a joint venture sourcing arrangement with a Coimbatore-based company, is evaluating sites in Andhra Pradesh, which includes Visakhapatnam and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.

“A decision to go ahead with the plant and the final location would be taken very soon and we expect to announce this and begin work on the plant by January 2008,” Mr Radhakrishna Kasani, Vice-President, Sales and Procurement, Emirates Techno Castings, said.

Speaking to Business Line, during his visit to Hyderabad, Mr Radhakrishna said “the company believes that India is at a point where significant investments are likely in the areas of oil and gas and other related areas where the company has a big market potential. And a manufacturing base will help serve it better.”

The company has a joint venture sourcing agreement with a company based in Coimbatore and manages a fully-owned engineering services centre in Hyderabad.

The ETC management was in Hyderabad to take part in the Industrial Pumps, Values and Systems 2007 event being hosted at the Hitex centre.

Production capacity

The company has production capacity of 24,000 tonnes of steel castings and plans to step this up to 36,000 tonnes by 2008. To this, it is planning to add a Indian manufacturing base that would further step up capacity, he explained.

The high pressure critical casting business for oil and gas industry was a domain served by the European and American foundries. But with companies such as Emirates Techno Castings, the market is seeing a shift, he said.

“We are in parleys with AP and TN Governments to finalise manufacturing plans,” Mr. Radhakrishna said.
