Our Bureau
Mangalore, Oct. 5 The Mangalore Customs Commissionerate has collected revenue of Rs 353.98 crore till the end of August as against Rs 209 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Mr Arvind Singh, Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore, said that if the same trend continues, the commissionerate will be able to achieve Rs 850 crore revenue collection during the fiscal.
This would be Rs 10 crore more than the target fixed for the current fiscal and Rs 250 crore more than the achievement of the previous year. The Mangalore Customs Commissionerate collected Rs 600.35 crore in 2006-07. The major area of realisation of revenue is import duty collected on edible oils, petroleum products and fertilisers, and export duty on iron ore exports.
Asked about the progress in the establishment of an air cargo complex at Mangalore airport, he said the department may go in for an air cargo complex at the new terminal building, which is being constructed. The establishment of an air cargo complex requires substantial amount of cargo from the region.
No proposal has come from trade and industry bodies for the establishment of an air cargo complex, he added.
