Cars Info-Tech - Hardware Marketing - Strategy Car computers hit Indian market
PCs installed in new radio taxi services going to be launched soon for Commanwealth Games Priyanka Vyas New Delhi, Oct. 6 It is now the turn of cars to become totally wired, with a range of gadgets being tailor-made for them. One such product that has hit the Indian market is the car PC. Similar to the touch-screen PCs found in coffee-shops that can play the music of one’s choice, these car computers can be fitted on the back of the front seats. Passengers in the rear seat can operate the touch-screen PCs, which are also equipped with a GPS navigation system and Internet connection. With such help at hand, one can easily locate, for instance, restaurants of one’s choice, ATMs and other utilities; such a PC in a taxi can also be used to pay the taxi-fare using a credit card. “We are launching this product soon for customers here and would also display it in the car-videos section of consumer electronics at e-bay India. We are expecting demand for such car PCs, which cost around Rs 35,000, to pick up with radio taxis considering the product for the Commonwealth games,” said Mr Prashant Behki of SkyTech Multi Media. A car accessories supplier, Mr Behki has just bagged an order for 500 such PCs from dealers who are looking to supply them mostly to car rental companies catering to upmarket tourists. “As one of the largest radio taxi players, we will be evaluating the product in the coming days to meet the satisfaction level of our customers,” said Mr Binod Mishra, General Manager, Fleet Operations, Mega Cabs. “With people becoming highly personalised about cars, the Indian car accessories market is set to boom,” said Mr Pankaj Aggrawal, Business Head, Mobility Solutions, LeasePlan, a leading car rental company.
