Mayur N. Shah Mumbai, Oct. 6 Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is keen on promoting its bio-diesel initiative globally. The company is eyeing countries such as South Africa and Latin America as prominent markets, where the recently launched (February 2007) bio-diesel vehicles (Scorpio and Bolero) can be introduced as promising products, said Dr Arun Jaura, Senior Vice-President, automotive sector R&D, M&M. South Africa and Latin American are prominent markets for the company. They are also prominent bio-diesel markets. The vehicles are B10 and B20 standards compliant, thus complying with the global fuel standards. According to www.biodiesel.org , B20 standards includes blends below 20 per cent bio-diesel, such as the 2 per cent bio-diesel blends that are common these days. Evaluation testsThe vehicles (Scorpio and Bolero) that were launched earlier, are undergoing evaluation tests for one lakh km, in order to make them locally and globally competitive; they have been run in real world environment that has involved severe and demanding terrain, including hot and cold weather operations at high altitudes. The company will take a call on the final launch of the models after the tests are over. The vehicles are the outcome of the two projects undertaken by the company for its bio-diesel programme. M&M has worked on the research and development of alternate propulsion technologies in India. More Stories on : Outlook | HCV/LCV/Tractors | Non-conventional Energy | Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd
