New Delhi, Oct 6 The proposed special economic zone for manufacturing equipment for renewable energy project would come up at an estimated cost of Rs 20,000 crore, the Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Mr Vilas Muttemwar, has said.

The Centre is currently finalising the location of the SEZ, with proposals having been received from six states — Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the minister said at India Energy Summit 2007.

“The estimated initial cost of the SEZ is around Rs 20,000 crore. The location would be finalised after taking into account factors such as central location, logistics availability and others,” he said. The Ministry would form a joint venture with the State Government and private players, who would be a part of the zone.
