Nabard plans rural cell

New Delhi, Oct. 11 National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has decided to set up a separate cell to focus on rural services sector, its Managing Director, Dr K.G. Karmakar, has said.

“We need to look at rural services more closely. Therefore the move to set up a separate cell,” Dr Karmakar told Business Line here.

He outlined some of the areas where Nabard plans to focus upon in the coming days. The areas include rural sanitation (preparation of bankable projects), low-cost rural housing, malls for marketing of rural products and low-cost eco-tourism (for rural employment).

Meanwhile, Nabard is hopeful that the utilisation of its Microfinance Development Equity Fund would improve in the coming days. The corpus of this fund is currently pegged at Rs 140 crore.
