Hyderabad airport company launches awareness drive

The airport officials have already covered five out of the 15 communities identified for the ‘Know your airport’ initiative.

Hyderabad, Oct. 11 With the launch of the new international airport just six months away, it’s perhaps time for the Rs 2,478-crore GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) to tell important communities what the new-generation airport would look like.

The ‘Know your airport’ initiative launched by it would also involve school children, with an aim to catch their imagination.

The airport company has identified 15 such communities and stakeholders, who do not necessarily contribute directly to the airport business.

The list includes top IT company executives such as Mr Srini Koppolu of Microsoft, industry bodies such as Nasscom and CII and representatives from judiciary, water works, transport and power utilities.

The stakeholders’ awareness programme has two objectives. While telling them about the world-class aviation experience that is in the offing, it would also help the company get feedback from a variety of sectors.

The airport officials have already covered five out of the 15 communities identified for the purpose. “Seeing is believing. They would have a feel of the functioning of the upcoming airport,” a senior GMR executive told Business Line. Besides a trip to the site, the initiative includes a presentation on the project, giving a bird’s eye view.

Benchmarks

The education programme is not limited to outsiders. For the staff, who would be handling crucial roles such as Emigration, Customs and security, global jaunts have been planned for familiarisation. Though these statutory tasks are going to be manned by the Government departments, a few in each of these wings have been picked for the awareness programme.
