Hyderabad, Oct. 12 Benchmark Microsystems, a technology solutions provider for animation developers and digital media companies, plans to expand operations with more centres in India and new markets overseas.

The President, Mr Ashish Mukherjee, said that the market in India is expanding and maturing into digital formats where the company plays the role of a system integrator for film companies and post production work.

Joint venture

Mr Mukherjee told Business Line that the company has expanded the sales channel by teaming up with Assimilate, a technology provider for post production work.

Headquartered in Chennai with offices in Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi, the company is in the process of expanding its overseas footprint and has set up centres in China, West Asia and Singapore.

“With revenues of about $22 million (Rs 88 crore), the company has embarked on the next phase of growth and plans to invest in new centres. As a part of this expansion, we are in talks with some private equity companies to part divest the stake,” Mr Mukherjee said.

Workflow tool

The Vice President of the US-based Assimilate, Mr Nacho Mazzini, said that the company, through Scratch Digital Intermediate Process Solution, is empowering post production companies with a new workflow solution. This enables users to produce high quality films in a cost-effective manner and in any format.

“We have developed a software that had been used by Red, a manufacturer of movie cameras. While these cameras cost about a third of what some of the leading manufacturers like Sony offered, but are flexible enough to enthuse people to opt for them, as they help real time digital content management,” Mr Mazzini said.
