Infrastructure States - Andhra Pradesh AP to revive airstrip at Nagarjuna Sagar Our Bureau Hyderabad, Oct. 12 The Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to revive the abandoned airstrip at Nagarjuna Sagar, home to the third century Buddhist site. This is part of the plan to develop a Buddhist circuit, connecting all the sites in the State. Left mostly untouched, most of these sites have started generating interest in Buddhists in Sri Lanka, East and Far-East. “The revival of the airstrip would help attract tourists from the Buddhist countries in a big way,” a Government press release said. The Government also bets big on the Rs 21-crore Buddhavanam project, which is nearing completion, at the site. Simultaneously, the Government will develop a 2,000-acre tourist spot near the reservoir. It would include resorts, golf course and theme parks. In a separate release, the Government said the State would seek additional Central assistance of Rs 7,000 crore under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana in the next five years. “We are finalising proposals in this regard,” it said.
