ELCOT will develop land at new IT park

Our Correspondent

Madurai, Oct 12 Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) would be developing 100 acres for sale to companies at the proposed Information Technology Park at Gangaikondan, near Tirunelveli, as companies are expected to commence operations from August 2008, Mr C.Umashankar, Managing Director, ELCOT, said.

500 acres

ELCOT has decided to take 500 acres for development at the proposed IT park in the first phase.

However, it would immediately develop 100 acres to facilitate operations by IT companies as Sutherland Global Services Ltd and Hexaware Technologies have sought allotment of land to establish their offices.

While SGSL has already been allotted 10 acres, HT has sought 25 acres, he said addressing reporters at Tirunelveli after inaugurating a conference on ‘SMExpressions 2007’, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, Madurai Zone, at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.

Model layouts

Three model layouts for development of the site have been prepared and one of them would soon be selected.

The IT Park would become fully operational with anchor and small companies in the next three years, providing employment to nearly 1 lakh people , he added.
