Bangladesh, Nepal to strengthen ties

Bangladesh and Nepal are exploring the possibility of starting cargo flights and freight trains between the two countries as part of its exercise to boost bilateral trade that currently accounts for $50 million annually.

Bangladesh, it is learnt, has offered Rohanpur rail port for use as the transit point for goods to and from Nepal.

However, Nepal being land-locked country and having strong links with India, it is also felt that no effort in this regard could hope to succeed without the active support from India.

It is further learnt that Bangladesh and Nepal have decided to take up with India the issue of Kakarvitta-Panitanki-Phulbari-Banglabandh corridor.
