S-E Rly passenger revenue up

During the first six months (i.e. April to September) of South Eastern Railway (2007-08) has carried 92 million passengers generating a revenue of Rs 352 crore, up 12.5 per cent compared to last year. Of the 92 million passengers, 49 million were non-suburban and 43 million suburban passengers. Ticket-checking was also intensified during the above period. A total of 77,338 passengers without ticket or with improper tickets were fined and 377,468 unbooked luggage cases wer e detected. The railway earned Rs.2.7 crore from ticketless travellers and Rs.1.7 crore from unbooked luggage cases during the period, adds the release. The railway has also decided to run special trains to Puri and Hyderabad to clear the extra rush of passengers during the ensuring festive season.
