Dabur Pharma launches cancer drug in UK

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Oct. 15 Dabur Pharma has launched its chemotherapy drug paclitaxel in the United Kingdom. “It’s a big molecule for us, and will do significant business for us,” said Mr Ajay Vij, CEO, Dabur Pharma, declining to share sales estimates for the drug.

The cancer specialist, which has a subsidiary in the UK, Dabur Oncology Plc, plans to follow this up with forays into other European countries.

Dabur Pharma has filed 10 ANDAs (abbreviated new drug applications) with the US Food and Drug Administration, and has got approval for three ANDAs.

According to Mr Vij, the company has 15 drugs in the pipeline at various stages of development. “We have the largest anti-cancer product portfolio and have invested Rs 100 crore over the last 18 months in expansion of our formulation manufacturing capacity,” he said.

Fresh investments are likely to be made in the overseas acquisition that the company is hoping for.

“The increase in the value of the rupee will be an issue if and when we look to raise funds. However, we have yet to find a good target. It will have to synergise with our existing business, and provide us with greater distribution reach and new geographical markets,” he said.
