NIFT to open Kannur centre next year

Kochi, Oct. 15 The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is planning to start classes at the institute’s centre that is coming up in Kannur from the next academic year.

The State Industries Minister, Mr Elamaram Karim, and a delegation from NIFT led by Director, Ms Kalpana Swami, held discussions on the project in Kozhikode. At the talks, the Minister offered to make all arrangements to enable the institute to commence classes from the next academic year.

Both the Minister and the delegation said that the opening of the centre in Kannur would give a fillip to the development of textiles industry in north Kerala.

The Minister assured the NIFT delegation of full Government support for the institute’s centre. The Government would provide all basic facilities for the project.

The NIFT team had visited the site proposed by the State Government near the Kannur Government Engineering College at Mangattuparamba and Kinfra Textile centre at Nadukani.

In Kannur, the delegation also held discussions with representatives of Kerala Textiles Exporters Association, North Malabar Chamber of Commerce, Handloom Cooperative Society and handloom textiles businessmen.

The Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) Managing Director, Mr A.S. Suresh Babu; the Kinfra Apparel Park Managing Director, Mr J. Krishnakumar; the Kinfra Media Advisor, Mr K.N. Srikumar, were present at the discussions with the Industries Minister in Kozhikode.
