Etech to hire 5,000 at Gandhinagar Infocity

Ahmedabad, Oct 15 The Texas-based Etech Inc, which set up its first offshore centre in India as an ITES/BPO facility at Infocity in Gandhinagar, on Monday announced to build and occupy an entire tower at this information technology park to create some 5,000 jobs in a couple of years with an investment of nearly Rs 15 crore.

However, if the Gujarat Government failed to provide all the necessary clearances by March 2008, the company would consider moving out of the State, Mr Jim Iyoob, Director (Worldwide Operations), told a news conference here.

The company, which has invested around Rs 50 crore since its arrival at Infocity in 2003, now has 800 seats and is the largest ITeS/BPO facility in Gujarat. Etech has on its customer rolls a number of Fortune-50 and Fortune-500 companies, he added.

Under its expansion plans, Etech will occupy Info Tower-IV at Creative Infocity Ltd’s premises in Gandhinagar, comprising 2.50 lakh square feet which will be completed next year. The new tower will be named “Etech Towers”.

It had already started operations at the second centre at Vadodara in Gujarat. Last year, it acquired an IT-ready tower of 1.50 lakh square feet at Thane in Maharashtra for further expansion in the ITeS/BPO sector.

The company had also set up an English-coaching facility for its employees at Gandhinagar, he added.

The company expects the tower to be ready before March 2008 and has sought help from both Infocity management as well as the state government to help complete the project on time.

“Anticipating our growth, we need to be prepared with the infrastructure any more delays in setting up our tower hinders us to create more jobs here,” said Mr Iyoob.

When asked if the firm plans to shift its business out of Gujarat if the work of Tower-4 was not completed in time, Mr Iyoob said: “We will not move out of Gujarat.”
