Vallarpadam project: Plea to speed up land acquisition

Our Bureau

Kochi, Oct. 16 The Board of Trustees of Kochi Port has urged the Kerala Government to take immediate steps for the speedy acquisition of land for the Rs 2,000-crore Vallarpadam International Container Transhipment (ICT) terminal project.

The board, in a meeting held here, has resolved to request the State Chief Minister to intervene in the matter for an urgent solution. It also called for speedy acquisition of land so that the State may not have to suffer “irreparable loss”.

Considering the importance of upgradation of the port’s terminal facilities and for the overall development of the State, a lot of importance has been attached to the timely completion of the ICT project, the resolution said. Regrettably, the project is in danger of delay and consequent breach of contract due to the inability to provide connectivity to the national highway and rail network to the project site.
