Mumbai, Oct. 16 Philips Electronics on Tuesday announced the launch of its new range of Ambilight flat TVs, featuring new LED (Light Emitting Diode), in India.

Priced at about Rs 1.29 lakh each, the new range also features proprietary Perfect Pixel HD engine technologies, combined with full HD screen display of 1920 x 1080 p resolution. The new line-up is also more energy- efficient than its previous range, due to the innovative LED light source.

Mr Gunjan Srivastava, Director (Consumer Electronics Division) of Philips Electronics India, said the company was looking at consolidating its presence in the consumer lifestyle segment in India. “High-end product categories like LCDs are growth drivers for Philips,” he pointed out.

Philips also unveiled the one-of-its-kind diamond-encrusted Ambilight flat TV. Created in association with New York-based jewellery company A.Link, the 42-inch piece features 225 carats of about 2,250 individual diamonds set into a floral pattern around the edges of the frame.

The single piece developed by the company is not for retail sale, and has been touring around the world to mark its one-millionth Ambilight flat TV and will be later auctioned off to charity. The TV is estimated to be valued at $1,50,000.

Actor Katrina Kaif unveiled the set at a function in Mumbai.
