‘Nigeria ready to partner India in mining’

Chennai, Oct.16 Nigeria has agreed to allow mining of value-added minerals and their export to India. The Nigerian Government has also agreed to offer all possible concessions for Indian companies to take up mining activity there.

This was conveyed to the Union Minister of State for Mines, Mr T. Subbarami Reddy, by his Nigerian counterpart, Sh. Sarafa Tunji Ishola, during a meeting in Abuja on Monday.

Mr Reddy, who is accompanying the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, during his tour of Nigeria and South Africa, had detailed discussions with Mr Ishola for bilateral relations in the mining sector.

According to a press release from Mr Reddy’s office, the Nigerian Government is prepared to encourage Indian entrepreneurs for mining and setting up industries in coal, gold, iron ore, chrome ore, lead and other minerals.

Mr Reddy agreed to extend cooperation in mining operations and in exchange programmes.
