Indo-Mauritius working group set up

New Delhi, Oct. 15 A joint working group comprising officials of both India and Mauritius has been formally set up recently to explore areas of cooperation in shipping and road transportation.

The Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Mr T.R. Baalu, who is visiting Mauritius had discussions with Mauritian officials regarding various issues of mutual interest.

This included procurement of one oil tanker of 50,000-55,000 dead weight tonnage (DWT) capacity in collaboration with Shipping Corporation of India; training of Merchant Navy Officers and allocation of four standalone slots for the Merchant Navy officers from Mauritius in Indian training institutions; and procurement of equipment for the Maritime Training Institute in Mauritius, said a release.

The joint working group will go through these issues and will submit its report by November-December.
