G. Gurumurthy Coimbatore, Oct 17 Engineering construction major L&T is planning to take over at least 10 industrial training institutes (ITIs) under its fold to mould training offered for the trainees in these institutes to make them suitable for manufacturing industries. As first in line, it has decided to adopt three ITIs in Gujarat, which the State Government has allocated to it, according to Mr A.M. Naik, Chairman and Managing Director, L&T. Skill upgradationL&T will participate in skill up-gradation programme of these institutes and the best of the students would be brought to its new advanced training complex functioning at Hazira. The whole idea is, according to him, that L&T would be able to take at least 50 per cent of the trainees for its own employment. This would in a way enable his company to complete the supply chain management in human resources, said Mr Naik who said that his company had wanted to adopt at least 10 of the 20 ITIs run in that State. The Gujarat Government had also expressed its willingness to allow the company to even alter the training mode and syllabi of these institutes to achieve the desire changes in skill improvement. L&T is also looking at the scope of similar ITI adoption in Tamil Nadu where it is holding talks with the Tamil Nadu Government which is yet to come out with a scheme on this. L and T has proposed to set up one more skill training institutes in Kancheepuram for construction workers in lines of the one it has recently started in Chennai.
