Tea volumes rise at Coonoor sales

Coonoor, Oct. 17 An analysis of the catalogues of the different brokers indicates that the volume offered for Sale No: 42 of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) to be held here tomorrow and Friday totals 12.94 lakh kg.

This is 1.23 lakh kg more than the offer of last week. This is some 70,000 kg more than the offer for the corresponding sale of last year. This time last year, there was no sale on account of Diwali.

Of the 12.94 lakh kg on offer now, 9.05 lakh kg belong to the leaf grades and 3.89 lakh kg dust grades. Again, as much as 12.27 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 0.67 lakh kg orthodox variety.

The proportion of orthodox continues to be low in both the leaf and dust grades.
