Mitsubishi Electric forms venture with Messung, IBM

Our Bureau

Pune, Oct. 18 Japan-based Mitsubishi Electric Company, its Indian distributor Messung Systems and IBM have formed a consortium to deliver a holistic Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to large automakers in India.

Mitsubishi’s role would be to supply the Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and all other related hardware, IBM will supply the software platform to integrate the factory-automation hardware with the existing ERP of the customer while Messung would be the front-end to install the hardware and the software and maintain the system.

One-stop

Mr Farook Merchant, Chairman and Managing Director, Messung Systems said, “This will provide a one-stop MES solution to the end-customers. While we are targeting the automakers to begin with, MES can be tailored for other manufacturing industries also.” MES, which can also be installed by companies that already have factory automation, integrates shop-floor automation with ERP systems, and helps increase efficiency by eliminating manual pick-ups and checks.

The total market for MES in India is in excess of Rs 150 crore.

Amongst the Indian auto companies, Maruti Suzuki Ltd was the first to implement MES in 2001 with an investment of Rs 30 crore.
