Our Bureau

Chennai, Oct. 21 The areas in and around Chennai and Sriperumbudur are likely to attract a total investment of $4 billion in the next two-three years, according to the Tamil Nadu Information Technology Secretary, Dr C. Chandramouli.

In 2008, the Sriperumbudur area alone is likely to attract an investment of around $1 billion in electronic manufacturing, which is becoming the ‘sunrise industry’ for Tamil Nadu, he said at a workshop on “offshoring and outsourcing opportunities from Australia” organised by the Indo-Australian Chamber of Commerce.

Similarly, by 2009, investment worth $3 billion will be pumped in the automobile sector in and around Chennai, he said.

A leading Malaysian auto manufacturer is likely to invest $175 million in Chennai, and an announcement is expected soon, he said without disclosing the company’s name.
