Outlook HP sees good potential in infrastructure management Our Bureau Hyderabad, Oct. 22 Hewlett Packard (HP) India is upbeat on infrastructure management services and long-term maintenance deals that Indian enterprises are increasingly turning their focus on core business competency. Areas such as telecom, banking and financial services, insurance, manufacturing and eGovernance are seeing increasing momentum towards infrastructure management, according to Mr Balu Doraisamy, Managing Director of HP India. Mr Doraisamy told Business Line that HP India’s Andhra Bank win was its sixth such banking deal and reiterates its capability to offer end-to-end technology solutions. “However, while we did miss couple of good deals of the 15 deals offered to IT services providers, we continue to see big opportunities unfolding in the areas of infrastructure management services not only in the banking and financial services but also insurance,” he said. This is because banks and financial institutions have begun to offer third party products that necessitate them to take to new delivery mechanisms. The best part is when it comes to Indian banks, they do not carry much legacy systems, he said. While telecom is one of the sectors which has taken early initiatives in outsourcing its infrastructure, other sectors such as banking and now even insurance companies are looking at this option. This is not only to modernise their systems but also to handle issues relating to business transformation, he said. Alongside, some of the medium-sized companies in manufacturing and steel companies are evaluating this option. This is because they do not want to have big IT teams to manage their infrastructure. Because of HP’s strengths in IT services and data centre management, even in some of the eGovernance projects, Central and State Governments are exploring this option. For instance, in the case of commercial taxes and income-tax, which are revenue intensive, many projects have already begun. So is the case with land records projects in various states. Eventually, all eGovernance projects would head towards an integrated citizen services model, he said. More Stories on : Outlook | Software
