Outlook Cummins Generator to expand capacity Our Bureau Pune, Oct. 22 Alternator manufacturer Cummins Generator Technologies India Ltd (CGT) is expanding capacity to cater to the boom in the telecom sector, and is set to commission a second facility in India at Ranjangaon in December. The new plant will focus on producing a new range of small alternators, that was launched on Monday, and help enhance CGT’s total manufacturing capacity in the country to 1 lakh units annually by the middle of 2008, Mr Pradeep Bhargava, Managing Director, CGT India, said. “The ‘Green and Lean’ facility at Ranjangaon will be an efficient low-cost producer for the world market,” he added. The new P0 and P1 alternators range from 7.5 kVA to 42.5 kVA, and have been developed by CGT teams from various locations worldwide including India, China, US, UK and SE Asia. Speaking at the launch, Mr Noz Talukdar, General Manager, CGT, UK, said that CGT had invested $15 million worldwide, including $6 million in India in enhancing capacity this year. “The investment in India is no accident, but part of our business strategy for a global footprint, and this is an important leg of that. The global demand (for alternators) will continue, so we will increase investment.” In India, CGT earned revenue of Rs 260 crore last year, and exported 20 per cent of its production. This calendar year, it expects to earn Rs 350 crore in revenue, Mr Bhargava said, adding that the export target was around 20-30 per cent of the enhanced capacity, but would be flexible and depend on the domestic demand. CGT, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Cummins Group, has eight other manufacturing locations worldwide: three in the UK, one each in Mexico, China, Romania, Germany and one at Ahmednagar where it manufactures the full range of Stamford alternators from 5 kVa to 2,000 kVA. The Ranjangaon facility will be its ninth. More Stories on : Outlook | Electrical Goods
