Aditya Birla group to raise cement production capacity

New Delhi, Oct. 22 The Aditya Birla Group said on Monday it plans to increase its cement production capacity by almost 50 per cent to 46 million tonnes over the next one year.

The group also announced a change of name of its ‘Birla Plus’ brand to ‘UltraTech’ Cement, making it one of the largest cement brands in the country with a capacity of over 25 million tonnes.

“UltraTech will be the face of our cement business. This will be the biggest brand in the Indian cement business,” Mr O.P. Puranmalka, Group Executive President (Marketing and Strategy) of the Aditya Birla Group, told newspersons at a conference here.

Mr Puranmalka said the group has a total cement capacity of 31 million tonnes and over the next 12 months it would add another 15 million tonnes. The group has a market share of 19.5 per cent, and after the expansion, it is eyeing a share of 22-23 per cent.
