New Projects Industry & Economy - Steel States - Other States Posco has no plans to shift location: CM Our Bureau Bhubaneswar, Oct. 22 The Orissa Chief Minister, Mr Naveen Patnaik, on Monday said that Posco had no plans to shift its 12 million tonne per annum capacity steel project from Jagatsinghpur district of the State. Talking to presspersons here, Mr Patnaik said the Korean steel company was positive about the execution of the project and the plant would certainly come up in the site already selected for it in Jagatsinghpur. Mr Patnaik further said that his Government would extend all support for implementation of the steel plant project because it would lead to creation of infrastructures such as railway lines, highways and port. The steel project, with the highest foreign direct investment in the country, would also generate revenue for the State and create employment for the youth, he added. Replying to a query whether the State Government would extend police support to the company to begin work at the proposed site, the Chief Minister replied saying that whatever adequate support required would be given. Although the Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti had rejected his offer for a dialogue on the issue, Mr Patnaik reiterated that he was ready to talk to anyone for practical and peaceful solution to the issues. Posco-India had on Sunday reiterated its commitment to the project expressing hope that the steel plant will come up with people’s support. After a meeting with Mr Patnaik in New Delhi last week, the Chief Executive Officer of Posco, Mr Ku-Taek Lee, had said that the company would start work on the project on April 1 next year. In another development, the Steel and Mines Department has started the process to re-send its recommendation to the Centre for grant of prospecting licence for Khandadhar iron ore mines in favour of Posco. The department will hear the applications of all companies on six different dates next month to dispose off the applications seeking prospecting licence for Khandadhar mines.
