Its application covers the entire range of electronics such as telecom, consumer electronics, power and semiconductors. The US headquartered company with a manufacturing facility in Ambattur in Chennai has invested $10 million its new facility which will have 50 scientists and professionals for R&D. For over three years, the company been engaged in a collaborative research arrangement with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Mr Corbett said Asia-Pacific now accounted for 60 per cent of its assembly materials business and, “with India and China as emerging markets we wanted a research base in the region.” Mr Bawa Singh, Chief Technology Officer, said the India centre will play a significant role in evolving technology and materials for nano-applications in electronic appliances. With Chennai emerging as a major electronics manufacturing service centre, Cookson saw a synergy with its R&D centre in Bangalore to reduce the product development time.
