Tea Offerings at Coonoor tea sales at 1-year high P.S. Sundar Coonoor, Oct. 24 Volume offered for sale at the auctions of the Coonoor Tea trade Association (CTTA) has risen to year’s high following increased arrivals due to good rains in the plantation pockets. Catalogues of the different brokers total up to a volume of 12.81 lakh kg for Sale No: 43 to be held here tomorrow and Friday. This is some 12,000 kg lower than the record volume of last week. Barring that, this is the highest volume offered for sale so far this year at this centre. It is some 60,000 kg more than the volume offered this time last year. Of the 12.81 lakh kg, as much as 9.05 lakh kg belong to the leaf grades and 3.76 lakh kg belong to the dust grades. Again, as much as 12.24 lakh kg belong to CTC variety and only 0.57 lakh kg, orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox continues to be low in both the leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 0.20 lakh kg belong to the orthodox, while 9.05 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 0.37 lakh kg belong to the orthodox, while 3.76 lakh kg, CTC. Of the 12.81 lakh kgs, some 9.67 lakh kg are said to be fresh offers. These are new arrivals. The balance comes from the volume remaining unsold in the previous auctions. More Stories on : Tea
