Rupee gains; may stay rangebound

Mumbai, Oct 25

The rupee gained three paise against the greenback on Thursday following the gain in the domestic stock market. The home currency opened at 39.54 and saw an intra-day high of 39.45 before ending the day at 39.55/56, up from the previous close of 39.58/59.

"The currency was on a gaining spree during the day and went up to 39.45, but there was some dollar buying at the end of the day, which weakened the rupee a bit," said a dealer with a private bank. Foreign exchange dealers expect the rupee to be rangebound in the next few days. In forwards, the six-month premia closed at 1.20 per cent (0.97 per cent) and the 12-month closed at 1.10 per cent (0.93 per cent). - Our Bureau
